The river Rhône flows from the Swiss Alps through Lake Geneva and into France where it meanders south to the Mediterranean Sea. We join the river in Lyon where, after cruising on the Saône for a visit to Mâcon, we continue along the southern route to Arles in the South of France. 

During our cruise from Burgundy to Provence and the Camargue we explore two rivers and discover vibrant colours and intriguing towns: Lyon with its famous secret passages, Tournon with its majestic castle  and historic Avignon’s Papal Palace. We taste the wine and hear the stories of this beautiful River that has been the inspiration for many artists.

Description

The river Rhône flows from the Swiss Alps through Lake Geneva and into France where it meanders south to the Mediterranean Sea. We join the river in Lyon where, after cruising on the Saône for a visit to Mâcon, we continue along the southern route to Arles in the South of France. 

During our cruise from Burgundy to Provence and the Camargue we explore two rivers and discover vibrant colours and intriguing towns: Lyon with its famous secret passages, Tournon with its majestic castle  and historic Avignon’s Papal Palace. Your Itinerary

Day 1

We depart the travel Centre early this morning and make our way to Dover where we take the ferry to Calais. We continue to our hotel in France for the first night 

Day 2 to Lyon

We depart our hotel and travel to Lyon where we are welcomed onboard our ship in the early evening. After comfortably settling into cabins, we'll meet the crew with a welcome cocktail reception. Dinner tonight will be followed by an evening of entertainment.

Day 3 Lyon - Mâcon

This morning, we have a guided tour of Lyon. The city is situated on the confluence of the Rhône and Saône rivers and is known as the culinary capital of France. After a panoramic tour in which we discover the secret passageways, we have some free time in the old town before returning on board the ship for lunch. The afternoon is spent cruising on the Saône to Mâcon.

Day 4 Mâcon- Vienne

Whilst the ship is in Mâcon we have an excursion to visit Cluny Abbey. The Abbey is now a ruin but we can admire the vestiges and discover why this Benedictine Abbey was so influential in Europe in Medieval times. We'll return on board the ship in Mâcon. and spend the afternoon cruising southbound to Vienne, where we arrive later in the evening.

Day 5 Vienne – Arles

Today’s excursion is a guided walking tour of Vienne to discover this surprising historic city. See the Roman Theatre, thought to be the largest in the Roman Empire and stroll through the medieval narrow lanes.  We'll return on board for lunch and spend the afternoon cruising southbound on the Rhône towards Arles.

Day 6 Arles & the Camargue 

This morning’s we are in Provence for a guided walking tour of Arles, a city of Roman treasures, shady squares and the inspiration for many Van Gogh paintings. We also have the opportunity to visit a local olive oil producer  .

In the afternoon, we discover the intriguing  Camargue with its waterways and marshes , flamingos, Black bulls and the famous Camargue Horses.

Day 7  Arles – Avignon  - Viviers

Today our ship takes us to Avignon where we have a guided walking tour of the city before a visit to the Papal Palace.  We visit the Staterooms, the Pope’s private apartments and chapels and enjoy the spectacular view from the terraces. We return to the ship and spend the afternoon cruising to Viviers

Later in the day we have a guided tour of Viviers.

Day 8  Viviers – Tournon  - Lyon

This morning will be spent cruising to tournon where we have a guided tour. We'll visit the imposing Castle-Museum of Tournon-sur-Rhône followed by a tasting of local wines and regional delicacies.
We'll then return on board. Tonight's our gala dinner.

Our ship will cruise towards Lyon during the night.

Day 9 France Hotel     

We say farewell to the ship’s captain and crew and travel through France to our hotel.

Day 10  Return Journey

This morning we make our way to Calais for the ferry to Dover and onward journey to the Travel Centre, arriving in the mid evening.
