Description

A bustling Medieval market town in Shropshire, Ludlowis an architectural gem operating festivals and events throughout the year. Surrounded by the beautiful countryside of South Shropshire and the Welsh Marches Ludlow is an excellent base for walking and exploring the local area and the many listed buidlings that make up the market town - including almost 500 listed buildings, five of which are listed Grade 1.

Sitting high above the river Teme are the impressive ruins of Ludlow Castle. Built around 1086 with many additions made to it in the following two centuries, this castle is notable for its combination of Norman, Medieval and Tudor construction, and welcomes thousand of visitors every year.

Arguably Ludlows most notable features are the many black-timbered buildings that litter its centre as you walk through the town. Stunning in appearance and design these graded buildings are a highlight for anyone visiting Ludlow. One of the oldest of these buildings known as "The Feathers Hotel", with parts of the building dating back to 1619 during the reign of King James I. The name of the hotel is taken from the motifs of Ostrich feathers that form part of the timber framed facadem which can still be seen today.

A collection of historic buildings, modern shopping, restaurants and lush green parks overlooking the River Teme, Ludlow is well worth a visit to spend a day in absorbed in fabulous traditional Market Town surroundings.
