Itinerary

Day 1 Begin our Journey

We leave the Travel Centre in the early morning and make our way to Dover for the ferry to Calais and onward journey to the first hotel in the Saarbrücken area.

Day 2 Molveno

An early start for the journey to the magnificent landscape of the Italian Dolomites, and our hotel in Molveno.

Day 3 Bolzano

Today’s excursion is to Bolzano, where we have a walking tour in the city, an historic and artistic treasure where Northern European and Mediterranean styles combine.

From the centre we take a cable car to the Renon Mountain and join the little narrow-gauge railway for a journey along the mountain plateau.

On the return journey look out for the mysterious Earth Pyramids, cone-shaped clay pillars with a boulder on top - they often form rather bizarre shapes!

Day 4 Mendola Funicular

A journey on one of Europe’s Steepest and longest funiculars is the highlight today. We take the funicular to the Mendola Pass, once a summer retreat for Empress Sissi of Austria. The views are stunning as we see the road below, snaking up the mountain as well as the shimmering waters of Lake Caldero, Castles and Vineyards. And talking of Vineyards, we round off the day with some wine tasting!

Day 5 Caldes & Cles

Today we take a scenic valley train journey to Caldes, in an idyllic setting surrounded by colourful apple orchards. We visit the Gothic Castle in this little town and enjoy some free time before continuing by coach to the fruit growing Non Valley and the town of Cles which is overlooked by its castle perched on the top of a peak facing the shores of the Lake Santa Giustina. In the town we visit an historic mansion known for its mid-sixteenth century frescoes.

Day 6 Lake Garda

We head to the largest of Italy’s lakes, Lake Garda, where we cruise the crystal clear waters to the enchanting little town of Limone, hugging the lake shores in a beautiful, Fjord-like setting. There will be time to potter around the waterfront, explore the harbour, stroll along the cobbled promenade or wander through the little streets which wind through the town.

Day 7 Trento

A half day visit to Trento, nestling in a valley overlooked by the peaks of the Dolomites and surrounded by a patchwork of vineyards and apple orchards. We discover the stories of this surprising city, which once belonged to Austria, with a guided tour and explore the its impressive 13th century castle, colourful frescoes, lovely piazzas, and look out for the Rose window at the Cathedral

Day 8 Farewell Italy and on to Saarbrücken

An early morning departure from Molveno and travel to our hotel in the Saarbrücken area

Day 9 Return journey

We continue the return journey, taking the ferry from Calais to Dover and onward to the Travel Centre for arrival in the late evening.
