Day 1 to Germany
We depart in the early morning for the journey to Dover and ferry crossing to Calais. We continue through to Germany and our overnight Hotel.
Day 2 Embarkation in Linz, Austria
An early start today as we travel through Germany and over the Austrian Border to Linz, where we embark our ship. Shortly after embarkation the cruise begins as MS Modigliana sets off for the overnight cruising to Vienna. After settling into our cabins, we'll meet the crew at a welcome cocktail reception.
Day 3 Vienna
We'll arrive in Vienna early in the morning and our included excursion takes us along the famous Vienna Ringstrasse which is home to many of Vienna’s best- known sights before arriving at the Schönbrunn Palace for a visit to this former summer residence of the Imperial family. This afternoon, an excursion is included to visit another beautiful building, the Hofburg Palace and this evening join us on a tour of Vienna by night. Our ship will begin to cruise during the night towards Budapest.
Day 4 Budapest
The morning will be spent cruising to Budapest. Be sure to be on deck for our arrival as the first sight of the bridges and parliament building should not be missed.
This afternoon we have a sightseeing tour of Budapest, once two distinct cities that united only in 1873.
After dinner we have an evening of "operetta music” on board.
Day 5 Budapest, The Puszta
Today our excursion takes us away from the city of Budapest for a full day visit to the Puszta. This area of great plains and grasslands was once the ‘Wild West’ of Hungary where herds of livestock grazed under the watchful eye of the cowboys. The horsemanship is still evident, and we visit a fantastic equestrian show followed by a typical regional lunch.
Back on board for dinner, our ship will cruise through the night towards Bratislava
Day 6 Bratislava
The morning will be spent cruising to Bratislava, the charming capital of Slovakia.
On arrival we have an included guided tour of the old town with its splendid Baroque palaces, churches and pleasant squares. Later we'll cruise up river towards Dürnstein and enjoy a gala evening and dinner on board.
Day 7 Dürnstein – Melk
This morning we have some free time to enjoy Dürnstein, the fortified village where Richard the Lionheart was once held prisoner. Afterwards, we'll cruise along the wonderful Wachau Valley to Melk for an included visit to Melk Abbey. Originally a Baroque-style palace, it is now a Benedictine monastery that hosts a prestigious school with more than 900 students. Our final cruise later today takes us to Linz.
Day 8 Linz – Germany
We say farewell to our ship’s captain and crew and make our way through Austria and over the border to Germany for our overnight hotel
Day 9 Return Journey
We make our way to Calais, this morning for the ferry crossing to Dover
