Geopartner Update: Charnwood Forest Sets Sights on UNESCO Global Geopark Status!
Earlier this year, Roberts Travel Group proudly became Geopartners, supporting the Charnwood Forest Geopark team in their mission to showcase the geological significance of Charnwood Forest.
We’re delighted to share some fantastic news from our friends and partners at Charnwood Forest Geopark – they are officially preparing a bid for UNESCO Global Geopark status!
This is a significant and exciting milestone not only for Charnwood Forest, but for the whole of Leicestershire. If successful, it would mark the first time our county has achieved this internationally recognised status.
At Roberts Travel Group, we’re proud to be an official Geopartner, supporting Charnwood Forest Geopark in its mission to promote and protect the area’s rich geological, natural, and cultural heritage. The Geopark is home to some of the oldest animal fossils ever discovered, including the globally important Charnia, first found by schoolchildren in the 1950s. The bid for UNESCO status will highlight these extraordinary features on the world stage.
UNESCO recognition would not only celebrate Charnwood’s unique history but also support in sustainable tourism, local businesses, and education for generations to come. As a local travel provider rooted in this community, we’re honoured to play a part in bringing this vision to life.
We extend our congratulations to the entire Geopark team and look forward to continuing our support throughout this exciting journey.
